4 hidden health hazards in your mouth.

Did you know that your mouth is the key to your health and wellbeing? The lining of your mouth is very delicate and permeable (Thousands of times more absorbent than the skin on the outside of your body). It is the easiest entrance for bacteria, germs and toxic chemicals and other nasties to get into and invade the body. It is so important to take care of it and be mindful of what goes in, out and its condition.

Mercury/Silver Fillings

Like most of you when I was a kid I loved my sweets and junk food. The amount that I ate then would make me violently sick now. It goes without saying that the bad teeth and cavities came with it. By the time I became an adult , I had a mouthful of ‘silver’ fillings. By the time I reached my forties I was noticing that a lot of problems that I had suffered with were becoming worse and it was no coincidence that my very old fillings were starting to disintegrate.

I hardly slept. My mouth was constantly filled with mouth ulcers. I had zero concentration and the worst was thinking about death or dying, or my husband or family dying. It was an obsession, I thought about it 24/7 and it wasn’t natural. None of it was. I did some research and took some action. Now my life is 100% better for it.

The standard line is that silver fillings are safe, however there is a mountain of study and tests out there that show that they are the complete opposite. Those ‘silver’ fillings are between 48% to 50% mercury. A metal and neurotoxin  that should be nowhere near the body, let alone in your mouth and very close to your brain.

Forgive me for this, it’s going to sound like a horror story but it is meant to scare you. If you have them YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Many countries including Sweden have banned in from dentistry, they will even correct any existing silver fillings you have and replace them with safer alternatives. Others have banned them from being put into children’s mouths and pregnant women. This practice of mercury fillings is a 180 year old medical procedure with no extensive testing. Do you still think it’s right for them to go into your body?

Every time we chew or drink hot liquids you release up to six times the amount of mercury that you would get from eating mercury contaminated sea food. The mercury vapour can go through the blood, brain barrier concentrating amounts of mercury in the brain and organs such as the liver and kidneys. It makes me so angry that the dental associations of many countries such as the U.K and the U.S do not acknowledge how harmful they are. (Too many lawsuits perhaps?)

Before you run straight to your local dentist to have them whipped out, DON’T. If you do not have them removed with a proper safety protocol, it will do more harm than good. By correct protocol I mean, swallow guards so that you do not swallow any mercury during the extraction. Oxygen mask so that you do not breathe in any mercury vapour as they are removed. Even the dentist and their assistants will have to be properly protected and the removed mercury will be toxic and have to be treated as hazardous waste (So what was it doing in your mouth in the first place!) You will also need to go on a heavy metal removal protocol before and afterwards to protect your body against heavy metal poisoning.

His link in the UK is below) Even if you do one at a time, believe me you will be glad you did.   I haven’t had a mouth ulcer in years. My concentration is fantastic, my brain is clear and I am not preoccupied with death anymore. Much more preoccupied with living.

Chemical Toxins in oral hygiene products.

Toothpastes, mouthwashes all designed to make your teeth sparkle and your breath minty fresh. Before you gargle just look at the label first. Loads of toxic nasties in the typical commercial preparations. Fluoride, triclosan, artificial sweeteners and flavourings. It’s enough to make me shiver.

Prepare to hear the worst about something that we learned from early on. Something that is said to strengthen teeth and protect them from decay. Fluoride.

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in nature. However the fluoride found in your dental products and in some countries in their drinking water is very synthetic. It is actually the by product of the aluminium manufacturing and fertilizer industries. This by product, sodium fluoride, was used as a rat poison for a very long time.

If you hear that the benefits of fluoride outweigh the disadvantages, a recent article in the chemistry journal Langmuir says that the protection that fluoride gave your teeth was so thin that it was questionable if it protected the teeth at all. Also as soon as you chewed, any fluoride on the teeth would be swallowed.

Fluoride is also poisonous to humans. The amount of fluoride in a typical childrens fluoride toothpaste tube is enough to kill a child. As you know, children swallow a lot of toothpaste when they brush their teeth. Studies showed that an average weight two year old child could die just ingesting 40% of bubble gum flavoured toothpaste. You should be putting no more than a pea sized dose of this toothpaste on the brush. There are actual warnings on the tube to call poison control if you swallow larger amounts? Other problems are

  • Diarroea or constipation, nausea, stomach pain can result if ingested.
  • Heart palpitations.
  • Constant thirst and difficulty in swallowing.
  • Sensitivity to bright light.
  • Concentration and learning disabilities. Mood and behaviour problems. Low IQ
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Tooth staining, tooth pitting.
  • Skeletal fluorosis. A bone and joint disease that mimics arthritis.
  • Effects thyroid function.
  • In male animals it destroys their reproductive system.
  • Increases the likelihood of hip fractures in the elderly.

Triclosan is another baddy found in toothpaste and mouthwashes. As well as hand sanitisers and anti bacterial soaps. It is anti bacterial and antifungal.

You will be surprised to know that triclosan has been banned by the FDA from being used in anti bacterial soaps. So again, what is it doing in a toothpaste?

The findings are that triclosan disrupts your gut bacteria and slowly increases the number of potentially antibiotic resistant bacteria in your intestines. It also has an effect on your endocrine system. (Source Dr Mercola)

It seems that the triclosan is effective for fighting bacteria in your mouth but it works too well. Lowering your bodies own capacity to fight disease and bacteria.

Also look out for artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, which is linked to the aggravation of Alzheimer’s, diabetes, weight gain and birth defects.

Propylene Glycol. Used as a skin conditioner. Linked to allergic reactions and cancer.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Which is used to create foam. Found also in industrial strength detergents and engine degreasers. In high doses it can cause severe irritation and even corrosion of the skin in large amounts.


Look for better, fluoride free alternatives in your natural health food shop or online. You can find products that are natural, organic and do the same job as the commercial preparations.

Bad Oral Hygiene.

When it comes to oral hygiene we all do our bit. It’s important to have that white smile and fresh breath, but did you know just how important it was to our overall health?

Our mouths are hosts to lots of bacteria, luckily it’s mostly good bacteria but if you neglect your dental hygiene, smoke, or use certain medications that inhibit the amount of saliva you produce (Saliva washes your mouth clean) it actually lowers your bodies resistance to infection.

In fact people with serious gum disease are 40% more likely to have a chronic condition on top of that (Web MD)

Germs travel through infected gums into the bloodstream causing inflammation. This inflammation is the cause of disease. In fact some scientists are coming to the conclusion that the majority of medical conditions originate or manifest in the mouth.

It has been linked to heart disease, osteoporosis, premature birth and low birth weight, Alzheimer’s and strongly linked to diabetes. Also to lung conditions, possibly because of harmful bacteria in the lungs and it increases the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.

So be mindful of the way you take care of your mouth. Brush and floss at least twice a day and see your dentist and hygienist regularly.


Be mindful of your words

You probably think that I have gone completely off track here but bear with me. As I have said before, your thoughts and what you say out loud has a dramatic effect on how you perceive your reality (My epigenetics post link).

If you talk negatively about yourself, ‘I’m an idiot, or ‘I’m too old for this’ your words carry energy and it can destroy your self confidence and harm your spirit. The same if you speak negatively about others, your view of them has influenced others around you and you have influenced their perception of that person.

Talking positively instantly uplifts you, it changes your view on the world. It can give you and others encouragement and a completely different perspective.
